At NCIE, we believe innovation thrives when Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing are not only included—but lead. Our research and innovation services are grounded in Indigenous methodologies and informed by lived experience and academic rigour.

Our work includes:

• Indigenous-Led Research Projects – Designing and delivering research projects that prioritise Indigenous voices, ethical engagement, and cultural integrity.

• Action Research and Learning Models – Applying participatory frameworks to ensure research outcomes are practical, collaborative, and community-informed.

• Innovation Ecosystem Development – Supporting ecosystems where Indigenous ideas, entrepreneurs, and knowledge systems are nurtured and scaled.

• Policy and Program Design – Providing research insights that inform culturally responsive policies, funding models, and service delivery.

• Thought Leadership and Publications – Generating knowledge through articles, papers, and presentations that centre Indigenous innovation across sectors.

Led by Benjamin Mitchell’s doctoral research at the Australian National University, this service area integrates evidence-based frameworks with community-grounded insight to drive sustainable change.
